Fredrik Hundstad is back at NECON after a brief period away. He’s now in full swing as an automation engineer at Teknotherm – in a role that combines pace, responsibility, and technological innovation.
“I quickly get restless if nothing’s happening, so this suits me perfectly. It’s fast-paced, and I like that,” says Hundstad.
Fredrik first connected with NECON shortly after graduating as an automation engineer in 2022. He was offered a project at MacGregor through NECON – an opportunity he gladly accepted.
“It was a really interesting opportunity for me. I got a great impression of both the company and the collaboration with NECON.”
After some time as a NECON consultant at MacGregor, he was offered a permanent position at the company. He stayed there for a few months before deciding to return to NECON in December 2024.
Today, Hundstad is responsible for the automation component in several projects at Teknotherm – from design and equipment selection to testing and commissioning on board vessels. He’s also involved in cybersecurity. In short, his workdays are highly varied.
“My role is about making sure the systems work – in practice. From designing the control system to actually being on board ensuring everything runs as it should. That’s where the real learning happens. The understanding you gain out in the field also makes you better at the office.”
His workdays are rarely predictable. He often handles multiple projects at once, and priorities can shift three or four times a day.
“I really enjoy this variety – it’s a big motivational factor for me. Working with control systems, seeing how things connect, and developing new technology is incredibly exciting.”

Fredrik describes NECON as a company that truly takes care of its employees.
“They’re really good at the social aspect. There are many events throughout the year, and they show that they genuinely care. I feel well looked after at NECON.”
He also believes NECON has delivered on its promise of exciting projects and opportunities for growth.
“The position I have now has given me new challenges and the chance to further develop my skills. It’s been a great match – and that’s something NECON excels at,” he concludes.
