– It Feels Like Coming Home Again

May 27, 2026

When Daniel W. Langøen was given the opportunity to try something completely new outside NECON, he was encouraged to take the chance. Now, he’s back.

– It honestly feels like coming home again after being away for a while. Walking back through those doors felt incredibly good. This is where I feel I belong, says Langøen.

A Difficult Decision

It was not an easy decision for Langøen to try something new. NECON was never a workplace he wanted to leave. His long-term plan had always been to stay for many years, but opportunities like the one that came through the family business – a major oil development project in the Caribbean – do not appear every day.

– At first, I honestly thought it was impossible. But after working on it in the evenings for a while, it suddenly became very possible. At that point, it simply felt wrong not to give it a try.

When Daniel shared the opportunity with NECON, the support came immediately. That made a difficult decision much easier.

– The response was basically just: “Wow, this is an opportunity you have to take. We support you and we’re cheering you on.” That meant a lot to me, says Langøen, before continuing:

– It reflects the values at NECON very well – that people genuinely want to support each other and help each other succeed.

Never Any Pressure to Return

Langøen was granted leave while working on the project, and the dialogue with the team at NECON continued throughout the entire period. Not to pressure him into returning, but to support him. Eventually, the project took a different direction than originally expected, and returning to NECON felt natural.

Now he is back at the office – bringing new experiences and perspectives with him.

– At times, the pressure was almost inhuman, but I learned an incredible amount. Both about international projects, geopolitics, and how global markets operate.

Today, Daniel appreciates even more what he returned to.

– The work environment means a great deal to me. Working together towards goals that are ambitious, yet achievable. That sense of teamwork is something I value highly.

He also believes the story says a lot about the culture at NECON.

– Former employees still reach out because they want to come back. That says a lot about the people, the follow-up, and the opportunities you get here. This is where I feel I belong.
